Todos Lo Saben

The world premiere of the Iranian director's film "Everybody Knows" took place at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Asgar Farhad's 8th film became the second Spanish-language film after Pedro Almodვარvar's "Bad Upbringing" (2004), which opened the Cannes Film Festival.

This is a Spanish story seen through the eyes of an Iranian director. However, the film does not really leave us with the feeling that its creator is a representative of a different culture and life. The director managed to maintain Spanish temperament, energy and intrigue in the film.

The film stars the star couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. They have a long experience of working with each other. For them, Farhad's latest picture is the 5th joint film in a row, (Common films: Jamón Jamón (1992), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), The Counselor (2013), Loving Pablo (2017))

The director arrived in Spain about two years ago, lived in a foreign country, studied Spanish. It clouded every word, phrase, every little detail of life. He has a very different style of work, which is why I respect him so much.

"Despite working in a different linguistic and cultural environment, he controlled and took into account almost every detail," Penelope said during a visit to the Cannes Film Festival.

The story revolves around the protagonist, a woman, Laura. He returns to his hometown with his two children. A young woman who arrives at her sister's wedding only manages to enjoy happy, family harmony for a few hours. Soon everything changes and he finds himself in a real hell.

The kidnapping of a daughter drastically changes the lives of the characters in the movie and turns everything upside down.

The director tries to make us think about human relationships, values and society with the help of the connections between family members, their love past and adventures. As the lead actor, Javier Bardem said the film is about human relationships and in them we will definitely see something close, real and the everyday life that exists around us.

The main message of the film should probably be found in its title. Everyone knows - which simply means the truth that there is no secret that we can hide forever… and even if we think that no one knows anything about it, there will always be a person or group of people who sees everything, notices and waits for the necessary moment when this secret Use for personal purposes.

Farhad uses a different cinematic approach and entrusts the final finale to the viewer’s imagination. The director shows us some parts of the puzzle: the ex-couple in love with each other, the dramatic scenes of their common daughter kidnapping and their return in peace, the story of the guilty-innocent couple and the right to compose the final story of restoring justice.

The film is an interesting psychological drama that is "assembled" with many interesting, thought-provoking scenes, however the final finale is not really the end of the film and it still leaves many unanswered questions.
